Open call for a video-sprint in the Western Balkans

Civil Rights Defenders is issuing an open call for participation in a video-sprint event in Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia in October 2014. The events will be organised by Civil Rights Defenders in partnership with Youth Initiative for Human Rights Serbia as part of the “Video for Change” project supported by the Swedish Institute within their Creative Force Programme.

Video – sprint events will include a video production training for activists and a 48 hour production session, where all participants will get the opportunity to create five short (up to 1 minute) and one longer (up to five minutes) video clips on their mobile and/or tablet devices. All topics must relate to human rights and represent realistic, relevant and personal stories from each country. After all four events are completed, simultaneous screenings of all the materials created during the events – “200 minutes for human rights” will be organised in each of the participating countries.

“Video is still the most effective way to spread the human rights story, since it is a format enjoyed by both older and younger generations, online and offline audiences. Since video is accessible to all, why not make human right accessible to all as well? said Goran Miletic, Programme Director for the Western Balkans at Civil Rights Defenders.

Anyone who wishes to participate at the events can apply to Marjan Maruna no later than the 27th June 2014 on or by completing the online FORM.

When representing your idea, please include specific problems encountered, details of people and locations in no more than 300 words. Upon receiving your idea, Civil Rights Defenders and Youth Initiative for Human Rights from Serbia will evaluate them and invite selected teams to participate on the video – sprints. The number of participants is limited to 20 per country.

We look forward to hearing from you
