Civil Rights Defenders at Stockholm Pride 2016

Pride headerStockholm Pride has begun and as the city is decorated with rainbow flags, Civil Rights Defenders’ preparations for the week are well underway. We are delighted to welcome you to march for equality and diversity with us in the Pride Parade this Saturday. Furthermore, on Thursday, you will find us at Pride House where our colleagues from Belarus and Russia discuss what challenges they meet as LGBT activists.

Seminar: Dictatorship vs LGBT Rights
On Thursday 28 July, Civil Rights Defenders welcomes you to our seminar at Pride House 2016: “Dictatorship vs LGBT Rights: Threats and Tendencies in Russia and Belarus”. Meet LGBT activists Jonny Dzhibladze from Russia and Natalia Mankouskaya from Belarus and find out what it really is like to advocate for LGBT rights in their respective countries.

The seminar draws attention to the harassment, threats, and violence against LGBT people in Russia and Belarus, countries where LGBT people face discrimination at all levels of society. Jonny and Natalia will discuss repressive trends, challenges they meet in their everyday work and what it is like to work in an increasingly homophobic environment.

Where: Pride House (Marionetten, 3rd floor), Kulturhuset Statsteatern, Sergels Torg 1
When: Thursday 28 July, 17:00-17:45
Ticket: The seminar is free (no Pride ticket needed)
Language: English

The seminar is organised in cooperation with Stockholm Pride. For more information, please visit our Event Page.

Stockholm Pride Parade 2016
On Saturday 30 July, Civil Rights Defenders, together with friends from LGBT organisations in Russia, Belarus and the Western Balkans, marches for diversity and equality in the annual Stockholm Pride Parade.

Our colleagues not only face a hostile and increasingly homophobic environment in their everyday work, but have come under increased pressure from the authorities, through intrusive inspections, frivolous cases and arbitrary arrests. Civil Rights Defenders would like to take the opportunity to show solidarity and remember all of our brave colleagues who advocate for LGBT rights in repressive societies.

We would be honoured to have you march with us in this year’s parade. Please visit our Event Page for more information.

If you have any questions regarding the parade, please direct them to Karin Zilliacus.
