Banned parade may strengthen Serbian LGBT-community
Despite months of planning and intense dialogue with state authorities the Belgrade Pride parade 2011 was banned, three days before it was planned to take place on October 2.
– The Serbian government didn’t know what to do, they said ”We want to organise Pride, but…” and there is always this ”but”, says Boban Stojanovic, from Queeria and one the organisers.
But this turn of events may bring positive consequences for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community in Serbia.
– After the ban we got enormous support from people who are not openly gay, says Goran Miletic, Programme Director for the Western Balkans at Civil Rights Defenders and member of the organising committee.News.
