Assaults and Arrests must Cease Against Student Protesters in Myanmar

In response to the violent and indiscriminate violence by the police and vigilante groups against peaceful protesters in Yangon and Letpadan on March 5 and 10, respectively, Civil Rights Defenders joins 129 other local, regional and international civil society groups in condemning the excessive use of force. The signatories call on the Government of Myanmar to end and refrain from further violence, release all the arrested peaceful protesters without charge, hold perpetrators accountable for the violence, and respond to the legitimate demands of the population on the formulation of the draft law amending the National Education Law.
