Russia held responsible for human rights violations
According to the European Court of Human Rights Russia bears responsibility for six forced disappearances in Chechnya in 2003. All six men were detained illegally and must be presumed dead.
On November 26, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg finds Russia responsible for disappearances and for violation of the right to life. Russia is also criticized for failing in conducting effective investigations.
The cases were brought to the ECHR by the Civil Rights Defenders, in collaboration with the Russian Justice Initiative.
