Not all beginnings are new beginnings. The troubled recent history of South Sudan echoes the tricky nature of starting anew. Violations of the fundamental rights of citizens run unabated. The government’s responsibility to respect, protect and fulfil human rights has been left to chance. In this new country report, Civil Rights Defenders highlight the situation for human rights and their defenders in South Sudan – the world’s youngest country.

Who will Defend Human Rights in order to Deliver the SDGs?

In April, Civil Rights Defenders took part in the Stockholm Development and Security Forum 2016. Together with Kvinna-till-Kvinna, we organised one of the sessions focusing on who will defend human rights in order to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals. We are very proud to have contributed to the work of human rights defenders who strive to address human rights issues in their respective communities.
